Jenny Jones
Jenny Jones is running for Mayor of London in 2012!
An ex-archaeologist and former Chair of the Green Party, Jenny was also Ken Livingstone's Road Safety Ambassador and Green Transport Advisor when he was Mayor of London. Jenny's well known for her work on reducing road crime and violence. She aims to make London a safer city for all road users by actively campaigning to reduce the number of deaths and injuries on London's roads.
As Chair of London Food, a mayoral commission which aims to give Londoners fresher, healthier and more affordable food while reducing the environmental impact of our current food supply, Jenny was responsible for drawing up the Sustainable Food Strategy for London.
Jenny is the group convenor of the two Green Party members of the London Assembly. As an Assembly Member, Jenny works on transport and policing, and is a member of the Budget, Business Management and Appointments Committees and the Metropolitan Police Authority. She also chaired the Assembly's inquiry into homelessness and the Assembly's Standards Committee for its first three years. She is currently Deputy Chair of the Assembly's powerful Planning Committee.
Since her election, she has been pressing for urgent improvements to the government's treatment of trafficked women and children, for better facilities for cyclists and pedestrians, for improved access to public transport for those with mobility problems, and is a strong advocate for the congestion charging scheme.
In 2004, Jenny was named as one of 200 'women of achievement'.
In her time as a councillor on Southwark Council she has been working hard to represent the interests of residents in South Camberwell. She's been very involved in the improvements occuring on the East Dulwich Estate, has succesfully campaigned for the installation of a tetra pack recycling point at Sainsbury's on dog Kennell Hill and is working to make Southwark a Living Wage city.
